Our Story

The Rakhine Coastal Region Conservation Association is a well-known and consolidated grass roots organization operating in the Rakhine State since 1987. Though a broad network of volunteers, they focus on the education of local communication on environmental sustainability issues in relation to local development.

 

Our Objectives
  1.   To conserve natural resources in the Rakhine coastal region.
  2. To establish sustainable agricultural practices and minimize the practice of “slash and burn” cultivation.
  3. To protect our natural landmarks and landscapes.
  4. To improve the socioeconomic status of the region.
  5. To preserve the cultures and traditions of regional people and ethnic minorities.

  8. To participate in the protection of the Rakhine Yoma elephant range.
  9. To prevent poaching and wildlife trading.
  10. To study the region’s marine ecosystems.
  11. To restore the region’s mangrove forests.
  12. To cooperate with disaster risk reduction programs.
  13. To study endangered plant and animal species in collaboration with experts from universities, organizations, government departments, and private companies, both international and Myanmar based.
  14. To win the full recognition of human rights (as laid out in the UN Declaration on the Rights of Indigenous Peoples) for indigenous peoples of Rakhine State by the Government of Myanmar.
